Cheers Luc! by SPECTRA
In collaboration with the Flanders Symphony Orchestra
Before joining the Flanders Symphony Orchestra in a dreamlike performance of Brewaeys' Third Symphony, SPECTRA offers you a spectral nightcap, a supporting programme in which we invite you to become a little better acquainted with the music of Luc Brewaeys, which has been appearing on our music stands with the regularity of a Mortsel clock for decades.
A programme featuring music by Brewaeys himself, of course – Cardhu (written for SPECTRA in 2008) and Violacello (2000) – but also the Little duo (2010) by Jonathan Harvey, one of his musical soulmates, and Fragrances (2008 - rev. 2014) by his musical protégée Annelies Van Parys.
An ever-watchful eye for the big picture, enchanting colours, unparalleled richness in orchestration, nimble virtuosity, a subtle sense of humour and an unstoppable rhythmic drive: Brewaeys' music is unique and invariably invites you to listen to it again and again. Because, just like with any good book or memorable film, you discover new storylines every time, an intimate dialogue between two instruments taking place in a hidden corner of the musical feast, a mischievous wink that brings a smile to your face, a combination of colours that would make the best impressionist take off his hat in admiration.
