/NL/ Ja, mogen wíj nu eindelijk eens? Drie Grieks-mythologische vrouwen die veel te lang in de schaduw hebben gestaan krijgen een stem van drie componistes. Annelies van Parys, Aftab Darvishi en Calliope Tsoupaki plaatsen respectievelijk Medea, Circe en Penelope in een nieuw licht en geven ze nieuwe slagkracht. Gaea Schoeters legde de vrouwen ontroerende én bevrijdende woorden in de mond. En stand-up classicist Natalie Haynes stelt de personages aan u voor in een meeslepende vertelling.

/ENG/ When is it our turn?! Three Greek mythological women who have spent way too long in the shadows are given a voice by three composers. Annelies van Parys, Aftab Darvishi and Calliope Tsoupaki shine a new light on Medea, Circe and Penelope respectively, and give them new strength. Gaea Schoeters gave the women touching and liberating words to speak. And stand-up classicist Natalie Haynes introduces you to these characters in a captivating narration.

/NL/ Slam-performance met spoken word en hedendaagse klassieke muziek door Gaea Schoeters, Annelies Van Parys, Els Mondelaers & Lies Colman

In het voorjaar van 2020, middenin de eerste lockdown, lanceerde De Buren ‘Besmette Stad’: een project waarin ze auteurs vroegen van Ostaijens bundel Bezette Stad om te denken naar de huidige corona-context. Via een proces van co-creatie groeide Gaea Schoeters’ Holle Haven uit tot een muziektheatrale performance van 40 minuten. Noem het slam 2.0: door spoken word samen te brengen met hedendaagse klassiek wilden de vier kunstenaars de grenzen van het genre aftasten. Het resultaat is een podiumperformance die klinkt als een jamsessie rond een vleugelpiano (vierhandig bespeeld door Lies Colman en Annelies Van Parys), waarin Els Mondelaers stem geeft aan Van Ostaijen en Gaea Schoeters hem het heden intrekt.

/ENG/ Slam performance that combines spoken word and contemporary classical music by Gaea Schoeters, Annelies Van Parys, Els Mondelaers & Lies Colman

In the spring of 2020, amidst the first lockdown, De Buren launched ‘Besmette Stad’ (‘Contaminated City’), a project in which they asked authors to reinterpret the collection ‘Bezette Stad’ (‘Occupied City’) of the Belgian poet and writer, Paul van Ostaijen, to the current corona context. Via a process of co-creation, Gaea Schoeters’ Holle Haven (‘Hollow Haven’) grew into a 40-minute music-theatrical performance. One could call it Slam 2.0; the four artists wanted to push the genre to its limits by combining spoken word with contemporary classical music. The result is a stage performance that sounds like a jam session around a grand piano (played as piano four hands by Lies Colman and Annelies Van Parys) in which Els Mondelaers lends her voice to Van Ostaijen while Gaea Schoeters brings him into the present day.
